Abstract
Background & Aim: Myocardial infarction is one of the most common and dangerous diseases in industrialized countries. Therefore, it is important to apply various trainings and interventions focusing on the patient and family. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of multimedia education and telephone follow-up of patients and families on self-efficacy of patients with myocardial infarction.
Materials & Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 60 patients with myocardial infarction in the CCU ward of Hajar Hospital in Shahrekord in 2019 by Available and randomly sampling method divided into intervention (n=30) and control (n=30). In the intervention group, a workshop was held through multimedia software for patients and active family members. The telephone intervention was performed by the researcher for 1 month. There was no intervention in the control group. Patients' self-efficacy was measured before and 1 month after the intervention using the Scherer self-efficacy questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and SPSS 21 software at a significance level of less than 0.05.
Results: The mean score of self-efficacy between the control and intervention groups before intervention was (2/92±0/24) and (2/93±0/41), respectively, which were not statistically significant. But after the intervention, the mean score of self-efficacy between the control and intervention groups was (2/89±0/22) and (4/76±0/41), respectively, which was significant different (p≤0.001).
Conclusion: Training and follow-up were effective in improving the self-efficacy of patients with myocardial infarction. It is recommended that educational interventions with a family-centered approach be performed by nurses in patients with myocardial infarction.
