Background & Aim: It is necessary to identify missed care in different clinical departments in order to improve the quality, quantity of care and patient satisfaction. This study was conducted with the aim of determining and comparing missed nursing care and factors related to them in intensive care and general departments from the point of view of nurses.
Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional-analytical study, the number of 720 nurses by stratified allocation according to the number of hospital nurses (360 from intensive care departments and 360 from general departments) of hospitals affiliated to Golestan University of Medical Sciences in 2022 and were selected in an accessible way. Data were collected using missed nursing care questionnaires and related factors; data analysis was done with SPSS software version 18 and U-Man-Whitney test at a significance level of 0.05.
Results: The average of missed nursing care was in intensive care wards (31.40±7.55) and in general wards (66.23±8.18). The average score of missed nursing care factors in the general department (33.94±8.16) and in the special department (64.02±11.19) had a statistically significant difference (P=0.0001). The most important missed nursing care in the special and general departments was "participating in interdisciplinary patient care conferences" and "doing oral care” respectively. The most important factors related to missed nursing care were in the intensive care department "emergency conditions of patients" and in the general department "lack of nursing staff".
Conclusion: Considering the difference of missed nursing care in general departments compared to intensive care departments, it is necessary to train the nursing staff and monitor their performance.
