Background & Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the prediction of life expectancy based on emotion regulation difficulties, resilience, and attachment styles in female nurses in Qaemshahr.
Materials & Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted among female nurses working in hospitals affiliated with Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences in Qaemshahr in 2022. Stratified random sampling was used. The inclusion criteria were holding at least a bachelor's degree in nursing, employment in clinical wards, having at least 6 months of work experience, and willingness to participate in the study. Incomplete questionnaires were set as exclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Miller Hope Scale, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Hazan and Shaver Attachment Styles Questionnaire, and the Gratz and Roemer Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis
Results: A positive and significant correlation was observed between attachment style (r=0.684, P<0.001) and resilience (r=0.683, P<0.001) with life expectancy. Conversely, a strong negative correlation was found between difficulty in emotional control and life expectancy (r=-0.878, P<0.001). Multiple regression analysis showed that difficulty in emotional control (β=-0.803, P<0.001) and attachment style (β=0.219, P=0.011) were significant predictors of life expectancy, with difficulty in emotional control being the strongest predictor. Resilience did not contribute significantly to predicting life expectancy (β=-0.102, P=0.272(
Conclusion: The results indicated that life expectancy in female nurses can be significantly predicted by emotion regulation difficulties and attachment styles, among which emotion regulation difficulties emerged as the strongest predictor.
