Abstract:   (123 Views)
Background & Aim: Workplace bullying is a prevalent issue in the nursing profession, significantly impacting nurses' mental and physical health as well as the quality of patient care. One potential factor associated with workplace bullying is communication skills. This study aimed to determine the relationship between communication skills and workplace bullying among nurses.
Materials & Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 2024 on 194 nurses working at Imam Khomeini and Shariati Hospitals, affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Participants were selected using a convenience sampling method. Data were collected through a demographic information form, the Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R) for assessing workplace bullying, and the Queendom Communication Skills Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 26, with a significance level set at 0.05.
Results: The majority of participants were female (70.1%), with a mean age of 32.16±5.75 years. The mean score for experienced workplace bullying was 41.14±3.58, indicating a below-average level, while the mean communication skills score was 119.78±10.09, reflecting an above-average level. The results demonstrated a significant negative correlation between workplace bullying and communication skills (r=-0.51, P<0.001).
Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that nurses with lower communication skills are at a higher risk of experiencing workplace bullying. Implementing interventions such as communication skills training and developing anti-bullying policies is essential to reducing workplace bullying and enhancing communication skills among nurses.
