Abstract:   (210 Views)
Background & Aim: Delirium is a multifactorial phenomenon that can be influenced by demographic factors. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between demographic and clinical components with the occurrence of delirium in patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit of hospitals affiliated to Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences.
Material & Methods: The present study was conducted between June 2021 and August 2022 in Kurdistan province and on the number of 118 patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit who were selected by available sampling method. The evaluation of delirium between the hours of 4 and 8 in the afternoon was checked by the researcher. The patients were divided into two groups and both groups were evaluated for delirium with the CAM (ICU) tool. The data were analyzed with the help of STATA version 12 software. A significance level of P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: Most of the patients participating in the study did not have delirium (56.78%). A significant relationship was observed between marital status, education level and the reason for hospitalization with delirium (p<0.05). Also, body temperature, blood pressure and heart rate had a statistically significant relationship with the occurrence of delirium (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Because the core of delirium management protocols is based on prevention and diagnosis, evaluation and compilation of the accurate history of patients in the form of demographic components can play a significant role in the prevention and management of delirium.
