Abstract:   (21 Views)
Background & Aim: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection. The HPV vaccine demonstrates high efficacy in preventing infections caused by high-risk strains. This study aimed to assess female university students' knowledge and attitudes regarding HPV infection and HPV vaccination.
Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in 2025 on 162 female students at the Islamic Azad University, Bojnord Branch. Participants were selected via convenience sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 26, employing descriptive and inferential statistics. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: Most participants were single and aged 20–24 years. The mean knowledge score was 13.28, indicating moderate to high awareness, while the mean attitude score was 28.27, reflecting a positive attitude. No significant association was found between knowledge/attitude scores and demographic variables (P > 0.05). However, a significant correlation was observed with academic field (P = 0.00). Additionally, family income significantly influenced participants' attitudes (P < 0.001). Notably, 51.2% stated they would only undergo HPV vaccination if it were provided free of charge.
Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, there is a need for education and awareness regarding HPV infection, as well as ensuring public access to the vaccine at the community level.
