Background & Aim: Self-care education is one of the main pillars to prevent complications in patients undergoing transplanted cells. This study was designed with the aim of determining the effect of self-care education with smart phone applications on the severity of anxiety and depression after stem cell transplantation in leukemia patients: a clinical trial study.
Materials & Methods: In this clinical trial study, 104 leukemia patients were subjected to stem cell transplantation with random block allocation in two intervention and control groups. In the patients of the control group of routine care and in the intervention group, in addition to routine care, self-care training was given to the patient with a smart mobile phone gadget. Two weeks, one month and three months after the start of the intervention, the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) were completed by the control and intervention groups. Data analysis was done with chi-square and t-test under SPSS version 25 software.
Result: The two groups had a significant difference in terms of average anxiety scores two weeks, one month and three months after transplantation (P<0.05), but in terms of average depression scores only one month after transplantation (P=0.038).
Conclusion: self-care training with smart gadgets reduces anxiety and depression after stem cell transplantation.
