Background & Aim: Mood disorders are one of the most prevalent and costly disorders that reduce function and quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between cognitive attentional syndrome and mood illusions in students of Islamic Azad University.
Materials & Methods: This descriptive and correlational research was conducted on all students of Islamic Azad University of Tabriz (N=380) selected via multistage cluster sampling. Data were collected using cognitive attentional syndrome questionnaire and Beck's anxiety and depression questionnaire. Data analysis was performed in SPSS version 19 using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation), as well as Pearson’s correlation coefficient and regression analysis.
Results: In this study, there was a significant relationship between cognitive attentional syndrome and mood illusions of depression and anxiety. Moreover, cognitive attentional syndrome significantly predicted the mood illusions of depression and anxiety (P<0.01).
Conclusion: Attention cognitive syndrome is a factor affecting the mood illusions of students, and is able to predict depression and anxiety. Therefore, it is suggested that counseling sessions be designed to improve cognition and attention in order to reduce the mood illusions of students.
