Abstract:   (2011 Views)
Background & Aim: Puberty is the turning point of passing from childhood and entering adulthood, and the lack of proper knowledge about the functioning of the body during this period and the lack of preparation for menstruation causes fear and negative attitudes about puberty. The present study aims to determine the effectiveness of education on the level of awareness, attitude and performance of teenage girls about menstrual health in high schools. The first secondary school) in Esfarayen city, 2022.
Materials & Methods: This study was an intervention type, in which 413 female students of the first secondary school of Esfarayen city were selected using Cochran's formula as the sample size. In this study, sampling was done by cluster method. To collect data, the questionnaire of Nissi et al., which measures the level of knowledge, attitude and performance regarding menstrual hygiene, was used. The reliability rate was calculated to be 0.89. The pre-test was conducted, then the training was conducted in 3 sessions of 60 minutes in the form of lectures and presentations of educational PowerPoints, as well as questions and answers. A few days after the completion of the training course, the post-test was taken and three months later, the follow-up test was conducted. Then the collected data was entered into SPSS software version 24 and analyzed using paired T-test and other descriptive tests.
Results: The results of paired t-test showed that there is a significant difference between the performance of girls before (23.68 ± 2.67) and after training (26.12 ± 2.91), which indicates the effectiveness of the intervention (2.44 ± 2.77 and p≤0.05). Also, the results of the research showed that the educational intervention in the field of puberty health was effective in the level of knowledge (2.66 ± 2.95) and attitude (5.09 ± 4.6) of students (p < 0.001).
Conclusion: The results showed that the education of health topics during puberty (menstrual hygiene) had a noticeable effect on the level of knowledge, attitude and performance of students, so the correct information in this matter should be provided through correct information sources, especially through mothers and health officials. schools should be transferred to them, therefore, it is suggested that the relevant authorities should make the necessary efforts to increase the awareness of adolescent girls regarding pubertal health through public education in order to improve their attitude, improve their performance and, as a result, improve their health level.
