Background: Nurses, as key members of the healthcare system, are influenced by various individual and organizational factors that may affect their job performance. Among these factors, demographic characteristics and job interest play important roles. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics, job interest, and job performance of nurses working in educational and medical centers affiliated with Hamadan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 on 265 nurses selected through proportional stratified random sampling. Inclusion criteria were employment in the educational and medical centers (official or contractual), at least one year of work experience, and willingness to participate. The exclusion criterion was incomplete questionnaires. Data were collected using a demographic information form and the standardized Patterson Job Performance Questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 26, applying independent t-test, Pearson correlation, and one-way ANOVA. The significance level was set at P<0.05.
Results: The mean age of participants was 32.66±6.8 years, and the mean work experience was 9.23±6.1 years. Significant associations were found between job performance and job interest, employment status, work shift, age, and work experience (P<0.05). However, gender, marital status, and educational level showed no significant relationship with job performance.
Conclusion: Job interest, type of work shift, employment status, age, and work experience were identified as the most important predictors of nurses’ job performance. Hospital managers are advised to design educational programs and motivational policies tailored to these key factors to improve nurses’ job performance
