Background & Aim: Violence against women is related to a chain of health issues and affects women's health behaviors and ability to seek any type of health care. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between domestic violence and health-promoting behaviors in women.
Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 380 abused women who referred to Karaj health centers in 2020 with cluster sampling method. Data were collected using the standardized and localized questionnaires of the World Health Organization on domestic violence and health-promoting behaviors, and data analysis was performed using SPSS version 24 software.
Results: The results of the Spearman correlation test showed that the total score of health-promoting behaviors has a negative and significant relationship with the total score of domestic violence (r=0.16), mental violence (r=0.16), and sexual violence (r=0.13). The regression results showed that different dimensions of domestic violence together can predict 2% of the total score of health promoting behaviors (R=0.17, R2adj=0.02).
Conclusion: violence can affect women's health behaviors and prevention of violence can be an important step in the development of women's health and of course the health of the whole society.
